Subtle Extra Things
Luxury Picnics & High Tea Branding — Freelance Project
A friend based in Melbourne launched Subtle Extra Things, a luxury picnic and high tea business, and brought me on as a freelance designer to elevate her brand identity—starting with her most important platform: Instagram.
The Brief: Keep the name. Keep the blush pink. Make everything else feel more premium and cohesive.
Before
The original branding had potential, but it wasn’t quite aligned with the luxe, curated experience the business wanted to offer. The logo font lacked sophistication, and the white circle element didn’t add value.
On Instagram, the use of stark black and white clashed with the soft pink palette, and inconsistent typography making the overall aesthetic feel a bit disjointed. The Instagram Highlights had a different font from the logo, and the style didn't convey the subtlety of the brand.

After
To bring the brand to life, I focused on elegance, harmony, and personality.
-
Typography: Introduced Bodoni for the logo and headers to bring in a sense of timeless sophistication, paired with Gotham for clean, modern readability.
-
Colour Palette: Kept the blush pink at the core, but removed the harsh black and white in favor of a softer, more refined palette.
-
Visual Elements: Added geometric accents to bring subtle character—used across print materials like business cards.
-
Instagram Glow-Up: Designed custom hand-drawn icons for the Instagram Highlights to give a delicate, thoughtful touch and unify the visual identity.
The result: a brand that feels as special and curated as the events it represents.
