Maud.reads Booktok

Content Creation, Community Building & Social Video Strategy

At the end of 2024, I rekindled my love for reading and turned it into a creative outlet: launching "maud.reads", a TikTok account dedicated to books, reviews, and all things BookTok. The goal? Brush up on short-form video editing, explore the world of video-centric social platforms, and dive into what it really means to build an online community.

Results

Within just a few weeks, the account hit 1,000 followers—and by early April 2025, it was on the verge of reaching 2,000. More than just a numbers game, this project taught me:

  • The key difference between editing for TV vs social media platforms

  • How to create engaging content tailored to specific audience

  • The importance of routine, responsiveness, and real-time engagement in community growth

Strategy Meets Storytelling

From aesthetic slideshows and review clips to trending audio formats, I explored different content types to test what resonated. I created a detailed content calendar to stay consistent and experimented with post timing, hashtags, and engagement tactics to grow the account organically. 

I continue to post regularly, test new formats, and—of course—read as much as I can. This is an ongoing project that fuels both my creativity and curiosity.
